The Museum 'In 't Houten Huis'

Museum In ‘t Houten Huis takes you into the history of Schermereiland and its seafaring inhabitants. The building housing the museum has long had a social function; from orphanage and poorhouse to, eventually, a counselling centre and home care. The building is one of 120 monuments in De Rijp. A walk through the historic and picturesque village is therefore highly recommended.

Exhibition ‘Oppressive and Liberating’

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum also has temporary exhibitions. Up to and including May 5th, the exhibition ‘Oppressive and Liberating’ can be visited. Here it tells the story from World War II in the region and 75 years of liberation. Poignant interviews with Gervien Pielage and Cora Bruin can be listened to and original objects, photos and documents from this time can be admired.

The museum, located at Tuingracht 13 in De Rijp, is open Tuesday to Sunday from 1pm - 4pm.
